David Lovegrove biography David Lovegroves art career officially started in 1987, though he grew up with the influence of his artist mother (Freya) and her collection of fine art books.
In 1994 he enrolled at the famous Julian Aston Art Schools at the Rocks, Sydney, where he studied full time for 3 years under many outstanding figurative and portrait artists, including Archibald Prize winners Francis Giacco and Nigel Thompson.
Whilst there he won the Henry Gibbons prize for Drawing and was Highly Commended in the NSW Art Gallerys Le Gay Brereton Drawing Prize.
In 2002 he studied for and gained a Master of Arts degree in Visual Art from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, South Brisbane.
David Lovegrove has taught figure drawing and painting and a wide variety of other artistic disciplines (including comic book art, concept art for film and TV and digital art) since 1995.
He has been a regular tutor and artist-in-residence at many private and public art schools and secondary schools in Sydney and in the local Gold Coast Northern NSW region. One of his best friends is a mouth and foot painter whom he tutored for 3 years in Sydney.
As an artist Davids broad experience base and training allow him to delve into many and varied artistic interests.
He paints in digital software programs using his Wacom drawing pen as easily as he draws and paints with pencil, charcoal and oil paints, and he experiments with the medium of graphic narrative.
As a teacher David is very enthusiastic and caring, and has the patience and artistic wisdom to help the complete beginner as well as the well practiced artist.
One of his great interests is finding a connection between the artistic philosophies of the West and the East, and sharing with others his discoveries, which he calls The Tao of Drawing.
David is pictured here with son Geordie.
