CPM ~ Community Print Makers
Ever wondered about that little building across the road from the stonemasons in Bray Park?
It is the home of Community Print Makers, a dedicated group of local artists who run a print workshop and gallery space.
You do not need to be a print maker to join,
many of the members are painters, potters (like me!), drawers, sculptors, art lovers
all have one thing in common
a desire to create and a passion for art.
The gallery is open Friday to Sunday and is manned by the artists, regular exhibitions are held showing a diverse range of prints, and some sculptures and paintings.
Feedback sessions happen once a month where you can show your work in progress, get constructive criticism and input from a community of contemporary picture makers,
or just have a chat and see what everyone has been doing.
I have been a member for three years.
I made my first print last week.
It was the best fun I have had in ages.
The print itself was nothing special,
a little linocut, a nice place to start.
Cutting the lino took a week, an hour here, an hour there.
Balancing the light and dark areas, stabbing fingers and applying bandaids, developing texture.
Trying to remember that everything is backwards.
Printing day brings new pleasures,
The ink, so black,
scooped from a dented tin and spread onto glass,
rolled until it is just so,
you can hear when it is right, an inky sound.
Ink up the block (not too much, not too little) and off to the press, place the paper roll once, roll twice
Peel back your paper and all is revealed.
A seductive black line that only printing can achieve.
CPM is well worth a visit for the artist or the art lover looking for a bargain.
